Using the wrong image size on social media means cropped logos, blurry banners, and posts that look amateur. Every platform has specific dimension requirements, and they change frequently.

This guide covers every major image size you need for the seven biggest social platforms in 2026. Bookmark it — we keep it updated as platforms change their specs.

Instagram

Instagram remains the most visually demanding platform. Getting image sizes right here directly impacts engagement.

Feed Posts

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Square | 1080 × 1080 px | 1:1 | | Portrait | 1080 × 1350 px | 4:5 | | Landscape | 1080 × 566 px | 1.91:1 |

Recommendation: Use 1080 × 1350 px (4:5 portrait) for maximum feed real estate. Portrait posts take up more screen space while scrolling, which increases the chance of stopping the scroll.

Stories and Reels

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Stories | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | | Reels | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | | Reels Cover | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |

Keep critical content within the center 1080 × 1420 px area. The top and bottom 250 px are obscured by the username bar and action buttons.

Profile and Other

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 320 × 320 px | Displayed as circle, 110 px on mobile | | Carousel | 1080 × 1080 px | All slides must match the first slide's ratio | | Instagram Ad | 1080 × 1080 px | Same as feed; see Meta Ads Manager for full specs |

Facebook

Facebook supports a wide range of content types, each with its own optimal dimensions.

Profile and Cover

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 170 × 170 px | Displayed as circle; upload at 320 × 320 px minimum | | Cover Photo | 820 × 312 px | Mobile displays center-cropped at 640 × 360 px | | Group Cover | 1640 × 856 px | 1.91:1 ratio | | Event Cover | 1200 × 628 px | 1.91:1 ratio |

Cover photo tip: The desktop and mobile crops are different. Design your cover with the key message centered both horizontally and vertically to ensure it looks good everywhere.

Feed Posts

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Photo Post | 1200 × 630 px | 1.91:1 | | Square Post | 1080 × 1080 px | 1:1 | | Portrait Post | 1080 × 1350 px | 4:5 | | Link Preview | 1200 × 630 px | 1.91:1 |

Stories

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Facebook Story | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |

Facebook Stories follow the same specs as Instagram Stories. If you're cross-posting, one set of assets works for both.

X (Twitter)

X has streamlined its image requirements. Most images now display well at a single standard size.

Profile

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 400 × 400 px | Displayed as circle | | Header/Banner | 1500 × 500 px | 3:1 ratio |

Tweets

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Single Image | 1200 × 675 px | 16:9 | | Two Images | 700 × 800 px each | 7:8 | | Three Images | 700 × 800 px + 2 × 600 × 396 px | Mixed | | Four Images | 600 × 600 px each | 1:1 |

Single image tip: For maximum impact in the timeline, use 1200 × 675 px. This displays without cropping on both desktop and mobile.

Cards

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Summary Card | 144 × 144 px min | 1:1 | | Summary Large Image | 800 × 418 px min | 1.91:1 |

For link previews (Twitter Cards), use og:image meta tags at 1200 × 628 px for the best display across platforms.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is essential for B2B content. Professional-looking images significantly boost engagement on this platform.

Profile and Company

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Personal Profile | 400 × 400 px | Displayed as circle | | Personal Banner | 1584 × 396 px | 4:1 ratio | | Company Logo | 300 × 300 px | Square, used in feeds and search | | Company Cover | 1128 × 191 px | 5.9:1 ratio |

Posts

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Image Post | 1200 × 627 px | 1.91:1 | | Square Post | 1080 × 1080 px | 1:1 | | Portrait Post | 1080 × 1350 px | 4:5 | | Article Cover | 1200 × 644 px | 1.86:1 | | Link Preview | 1200 × 627 px | 1.91:1 |

LinkedIn tip: 1200 × 627 px landscape images perform best in the feed. LinkedIn's algorithm favors images that display well without cropping.

YouTube

YouTube images serve a different purpose — they're primarily for discovery and branding rather than content itself.

Channel

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 800 × 800 px | Displayed as circle | | Channel Banner | 2560 × 1440 px | Safe area: center 1546 × 423 px | | Channel Art (TV) | 2560 × 1440 px | Full image shown on TV displays |

The channel banner safe area is critical. Different devices show different crops:

  • TV: Full 2560 × 1440 px
  • Desktop: Center 2560 × 423 px
  • Tablet: Center 1855 × 423 px
  • Mobile: Center 1546 × 423 px

Design your banner with logos and text inside the 1546 × 423 px center zone.

Videos

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Thumbnail | 1280 × 720 px | 16:9 | | Shorts Thumbnail | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | | End Screen | 1280 × 720 px | 16:9 |

Thumbnail tip: Thumbnails are arguably the most important image on YouTube. Use high contrast, large text (if any), and expressive faces. Keep file size under 2 MB (YouTube's limit).

TikTok

TikTok is primarily video, but static images and profile assets still matter.

Profile

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 200 × 200 px min | Displayed as circle |

Content

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Video Cover | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | | Photo Post | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 | | Carousel Post | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |

TikTok's photo carousel feature (Photo Mode) supports up to 35 images per post. All images should be 9:16 vertical for the best display. Landscape images will be letterboxed with black bars.

Pinterest

Pinterest's vertical layout makes it unique among social platforms. Tall images dominate here.

Profile

| Type | Dimensions | Notes | |------|-----------|-------| | Profile Photo | 165 × 165 px | Displayed as circle | | Board Cover | 222 × 150 px | Displayed in board grid |

Pins

| Type | Dimensions | Aspect Ratio | |------|-----------|--------------| | Standard Pin | 1000 × 1500 px | 2:3 | | Long Pin | 1000 × 2100 px | 1:2.1 | | Square Pin | 1000 × 1000 px | 1:1 | | Idea Pin | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |

Pinterest tip: The 2:3 aspect ratio (1000 × 1500 px) is the sweet spot. Taller pins get more real estate in the feed, but Pinterest truncates images taller than 2.1:1 with a "See more" cutoff.

Maximum file size for pins is 20 MB. Keep images under 5 MB for faster loading and better user experience.
